One of our most popular podcasts, was an episode we did that took us all Back to the Early 2000s. Since you made it crystal clear that your favorite episode was our early 2000s pop culture episode, we made a Back to the Early 2000s Part 2 podcast episode and wanted to share a blog with some pictures for you guys to highlight some of our fave 2000s things!
We’re taking it back… about 20 years back! Grab your Razr flip phone, throw on your low-rise jeans or your Juicy Couture tracksuit and butterfly clips because we’re talking about pop culture in the early 2000s! So get ready for a trip down memory lane because we are showing you our favorite and most nostalgic 2000s things!
1. Origami Folded Notes from the Early 2000s
If you were a female in middle or high school in the early 2000s, there’s a good chance you gave or received some of these. Now kids can just text each other, but y’all – most of us didn’t have cell phones yet! So we had to write literal paper notes (which honestly I loved).
Maybe millennials are extra, but you didn’t just pass a note… you folded it and decorated it! I mean, presentation is everything. Am I right? I managed to find some of my notes from middle and high school in the early 2000s! (See below.)
Also, can we please bring back writing notes to our friends?!? I’d be in if anyone wants a note passing buddy!

2. Low Rise Jeans
The jeans were so low-rise. And to top it off… some of us wore these with thongs hanging out for *fashion.* I literally cannot. I have always been curvy, even when I was pretty skinny, so this NEVER looked good on me. Even back then I remember wearing my pants a little higher so my ass didn’t hang out. I mean Beyoncé did make butt cleavage kind of a thing for a while, but it’s always been a no for me. So below are some pics of Jodi cirque de early 2000s, because this queen rocked all the trends.
I know 2000s fashion trends are re-surfacing, but I hope to God this one stays in the past.
3. Hair Twisties
If you were going out in the really early 2000s you probably had your hair twisted and flicked out all piecey like we see in Jodi’s look on the bottom left. Can we just take a second to recognize what a TOTAL ICON this girl is. Like I’m telling you. Y’all don’t even know.
If you were more basic bish, like me you probably had it twisted on top, curled and pinned up for a simple early 2000’s updo. Why did I use this pic below? It was literally the only pic I had from after a formal event that you could see my hair in. I don’t know what to tell you. I had some weird energy in the early 2000s. (Still do TBH – ha)
4. Tiny Jackets
This little jean jack was an absolute STAPLE. I literally wore this so much. Totally worth the probably $10 that I paid Charlette Rousse or Deb. Hahaha… oh Deb… Lots of budget shopping sprees there in the early 2000s. You could literally find trendy clearance heels for like $3 on the regz.
5. All the Duck Faces
I mean if you didn’t take duck face pics in the early 2000s did you even live? Like show me a single millennial who doesn’t have at least one duck face photo. You can’t.

6. Bump that Hair Baby!
The higher the hair the closer to heaven baby. We really put our hair through it with the teasing, and then to sprayed it until it was concrete crunchy. So iconic.

7. The Simple Life
I feel like you cannot talk about the early 2000s without mentioning Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie. This show paved the way for reality TV. Jodi and I used to be so obsessed with this show. We even bought small dogs when we were teens and I named mine Nicki (after both Nicole Richie and Nicki Minaj – judge away – haha). Just writing this blog honestly makes me want to re-watch the Simple Life for all the nostalgia.
